Into the Amazon tells the remarkable story of President Theodore Roosevelt’s journey in 1913 into the heart of the South American rainforest to chart an unexplored tributary of the Amazon River. Along with legendary Brazilian explorer Candido Mariano Da Silva Rondon and twenty other adventurers, Roosevelt spent eight eventful weeks in one of the most remote places on earth, battling tenacious insects, deadly rapids, hunger and exhaustion—all to descend an unknown river in one of the wildest and most beautiful places on our planet. More than an adventure story, Into the Amazon shines a light on two of the western hemisphere’s most formidable men, and the culture and politics of their nations, and a golden age of exploration.
