We’re thrilled to announce the reopening of most Megaplex Theatres locations, starting, Thursday June 18, 2020.

Many things have changed over the last few months but our commitment to creating the best movie-going experience anywhere has stayed the same. As part of our ongoing efforts, we’ve joined other Rocky Mountain NATO members (National Association of Theatre Owners) in formally adopting Utah’s Cinema Promise. Please take a moment to review the details below and become familiar with the measures we’ve taken to ensure the safety and well-being of every guest.

Wellness Checks for Employees

Healthy Together – All team members are required to complete a health check at the start of each shift. We use the Healthy Together App, endorsed by Governor Herbert and the State of Utah, to complete a standardized check. Results for every team member are reported to theatre management. Team members will be asked to remain at home if they are experiencing symptoms or have been in recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. – For more information, click here

Gloves & Masks

Megaplex team members will continue to observe safe food handling practices, always wearing gloves and the additional protection of face masks. Wearing and the proper disposal of gloves will be required during all cleaning and sanitizing procedures for auditorium seating, restrooms, and food preparation areas.

Face masks are required for Megaplex team members but are currently optional for guests in common areas of the theatre. We ask for guests’ help in maintaining appropriate physical distancing (6 feet) while in the lobby, hallways, restrooms, and concessions areas to avoid the need for mandatory masks.


Sanitizing High-Contact Areas – We have added multiple hand sanitizing stations in prominent areas throughout the theatres and our event spaces for guest and employee use. We have also enhanced our nightly deep cleaning standards and protocols. These measures include increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of high-traffic areas throughout the day.

Special attention will be given to sanitizing door handles, counters, touch screens at Freestyle Coke machines, railings, and other surfaces. Expanded breaks between show times will be observed to allow time for additional cleaning and sanitization protocols.

Hand Washing

All team members will wash their hands at regular intervals and when transitioning to new tasks. Additional signage encouraging proper handwashing for both guests and employees will be visible throughout the theatre. Regular servicing of touchless soap dispensers and hand dryers will add protection for guests and employees.


Physical Distancing – General Measures. We will continue to comply with governmental guidance and CDC recommendations for all phases of re-opening and recovery.

Guests are asked to help maintain 6 feet of social distance in all common areas of the theatre. We’ve placed signage in key locations throughout the theatre to assist with this. Additionally, we ask that you follow instructions from our team members so that we may serve you safely and efficiently.

Auditorium Seating Capacity

At our initial reopening, we will limit all auditoriums to 50 seats based on recommendations from state health officials. These limits apply to ticket sales on our web site, mobile app, Fandango, Atom Tickets, and the box office at each theatre. This may change over time depending on evolving conditions and local guidance. As circumstances change, we will update this page.

Row Spacing

To ensure proper physical distancing, row availability will alternate in each auditorium between showtimes. This will help eliminate contact points, as most selectable seats will not have been occupied during the previous show. As noted above, these measures are in addition to the extra sanitizing sweeps that will be conducted after each film.

Seating Gaps between Groups

When selecting seats on an available row, an automatic 3-seat buffer will be applied to the right and left of every reservation. The 3-seat buffer will be applied whether purchasing tickets on the web site, mobile app, Fandango, Atom Tickets, or the box office at each theatre. We ask that these distancing guidelines be strictly observed when you arrive at the theatre to ensure the best experience for all guests.

Cashless Payment

In order to reduce the number of necessary touch points at our theatres and to eliminate the need for cash transactions, we’ve made a few key changes to our web site, our mobile app, and with our ticketing partners. These changes include social distance seating and the ability to order food and beverages via the Megaplex Mobile App, available for free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

When planning a visit to the theatre, you should use one of these convenient services to buy your tickets and to place an advance order for food and beverage (Mobile App only). In the interest of public health, the theatres have reduced (and in some cases eliminated) the ability to accept cash at the box office and concessions counter. To avoid lines and the need for close contact in our lobbies, book in advance.


To reduce touch points at the theatre, our self-serve kiosks will not be available upon our initial reopening. Please plan to purchase your tickets on this site, the Megaplex Mobile App, Fandango, or Atom Tickets.

Contactless EMV Chip Transactions


In cases where a Megaplex Guest has been unable to purchase their tickets or concessions items in advance, we have updated the pin-pads at our registers to accept a variety of contactless payment options, including EMV (named after Europay, MasterCard, and Visa). EMV is a payment technology and global standard for secured payments using smart/chip cards. For cards enabled with this technology, payment information can be passed using NFC (Near Field Communication) by simply bringing the card into proximity with the pin-pad. To know if your card is enabled with this technology, look for the EMV symbol or enquire with your card issuer.

Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Digital Wallet

If you don’t have a card with a contactless EMV chip, no problem! The pin-pads at our registers have been updated to accept digital wallet payments using popular services like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. These services work like an EMV smart card – once set up on your device, you can securely transmit payment details by bringing your device into proximity with our pin-pads. This eliminates the need to make any contact.
