Free Community Event Features Crooner Chris Anderson Concert: Raven Awards Also Announced

August 24, 2019 — Saint George, UT — Dixie State University DOCUTAH International Documentary Film FestivalTM will host its annual free community film screening on September 6 during the Festival. This year, as last, DOCUTAH is offering a Drive-In movie event open for the entire St. George community to enjoy. The film, Sinatra in Palm Springs: The Place He Called Home will feature a live tribute concert with crooner Chris Anderson and a Fifties Costume Contest. The Raven Awards for winning films will also be announced that evening and those films will be screened on Saturday along with a second indoor screening of Sinatra in Palm Springs

The film captures the spirit of the Sinatra era and pays tribute to the unique lifestyle of Sinatra’s Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. Steeped in affection and appreciation for the deep bond between Sinatra and these beguiling desert towns, “Sinatra in Palm Springs” tells the story of a man whose generosity and compassion for his fellow citizens had no bounds. Revealing interviews bring to life a bygone era. Featuring interviews with Barbara Sinatra, Mel Haber, Tom Dreesen, Nelda Linsk, Bruce Fessier, Trini Lopez, Michael Fletcher and many others who knew and lived and played with Frank Sinatra.

“We hope our audience will pull out their best 50s threads and get ready to ‘make the scene’ at Docutah,” said Marianne Hamilton, Special Events Coordinator at DOCUTAH. “WE want to have some extra fun at our drive-in movie about Sinatra and invite attendees to take part in our costume contest. Maybe the ladies have that crinoline petticoat and poufy skirt – maybe one with a poodle – they just couldn’t bear to part with. Gentlemen can resurrect their best rockabilly/bowling shirt and stay-pressed slacks and shades.”

Prizes will be awarded for best male, female, and couples’ costumes.
