Director: Robert Rooy and DJ Savarese
Origin: United States
Synopsis: DJ Savarese (“Deej”) is a high school senior with an A+ average. It hasn’t been easy – typing with one finger on a text-to-voice synthesizer. He battles sensory blizzards and strong anxiety. As a child, his birth mother abandoned him. In foster care, he suffered profound abuse. Then, he met Ralph and Emily, who fell in love with him, fought to adopt him. and taught him how to read and write, at age ten.
In this first-of-its kind collaboration, DJ and filmmaker Robert Rooy share editorial control. DEEJ is a story told from the inside, by DJ – not by his parents or autism experts.
