Synopsis:

Synopsis:

In reconciling her own mother's past, her daughter, meets Emiko Okada, a Hiroshima survivor, resolving her own history in Japan. What started out as an innocent educational display of flags in the school dining room, turns into a mini-firestorm when a Tibetan student requests the Tibetan flag be hung along with all the other flags. When the Tibetan flag is installed, various mainland Chinese students react immediately, finding the act to be offensive. They campaign to have the flag removed and one thing leads to another. Ryu's treatment of the educational, political and emotional issues surrounding Tibet and its relationship to China, as well as the dynamics in the prep school, is handled with intelligence and restraint.
